THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University soccer program outshot Mississippi Valley State University 9-4 but ultimately fell 1-0 Sunday afternoon at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.
The Colonels (0-2) created multiple opportunities but were unable to put a ball in goal. The best chance came in the 63rd minute when junior
Francesca Curteis found herself in the box with the ball at her feet after a wonderful volley from senior
Mie Elvestad. A quick bounce caused Curteis to slightly mishit the ball, and the Devilettes keeper collected the attempt.
MVSU (1-1) tallied the lone score of the match in the opening minute of the second half. Forward Rhonique Alexander chipped the ball right over sophomore keeper
Roosa Hurmerinta from inside the box, ultimately deciding the outcome.
Curteis finished with a match-high four shots. Four of the Colonels nine shots were on goal.
Nicholls looks to get on the right track Friday at Prairie View A&M. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT. This kicks off a seven-game road stretch for the Colonels.
