GRAMBLING, La. – The Nicholls State University soccer team commences a six-game road stretch this weekend when it faces Grambling State University Friday and Jackson State University Sunday.
Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. against GSU and 1 p.m. versus JSU.
The Colonels (0-2) dropped its first two matches 3-1 and 1-0 to Southern Miss and Mississippi Valley State, respectively.
Senior midfielder
Mie Elvestad has the only goal for Nicholls thus far. The Lierskogen, Norway, native fired an attempt from about 25 yards out that found the back of the net against the Golden Eagles.
The backline for the Colonels has been held intact for most of the season as senior
Katherine Kelly and sophomore
Elizabeth Newell have stayed on the pitch for all 180 minutes and senior
Nicole Dupin has played 157.
Sophomore
Blaire Laiche (165 minutes) and freshman
Hannah Bodron (157) have also been vital players. Junior
Francesca Curteis has attempted a team-high five shots, including two on goal.
Grambling State
Friday, Sept. 1 | GSU Soccer Complex | 5 p.m.
The Lady Tigers (1-1) bested Texas A&M – Texarkana 1-0 in their season opener and fell to New Mexico State by the same score the following day.
Grambling's Kaylee Holt scored the Lady Tigers lone goal against TAMT. Goalkeeper Jordan Woodward earned SWAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors, saving five shots between the two contests.
Jackson State
Sunday, Sept. 3 | JSU Soccer Complex | 1 p.m.
The Lady Tigers (0-4) have been outscored 25-0 by opponents this season. JSU returns key players Jessica Blair, Jolene Ceniceros and Faith Toennies but is in the process of filling the void left by goalkeeper Kylie Christian.
