THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University volleyball team opens Southland Conference play Tuesday in a 7 p.m. match against McNeese State University at Memorial Gym.
The Colonels (2-11) saw some bright spots at the Memphis Invitational this past weekend.
Sophomore
Emily Venable was named to the All-Tournament Team as she collected 47 digs in three matches including a career-high 23 against host Memphis.
Freshman outside hitter
Imanie Williams tallied a team-high 2.7 kills per set while senior middle blocker
Emily Weimer swung at a .293 (17-5-41) clip.
The Cowgirls (8-6) posted a 1-2 record at the Buffalo Wild Wings Invitational in their final tune-up tournament, dropping matches to Drake and Valparaiso before picking up a five-set victory over host Western Illinois.
Sophomore libero Angela McGownd earned SLC Defensive Player of the Week honors Monday, averaging 5.4 digs over the last four matches. She ranks atop the league and 15th in Division I with 5.6 digs per set.
Sophomore middle blocker Shanna Spree has racked up 184 points this season, the most of any student-athlete in the SLC.
