THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University soccer squad dropped a 4-0 decision to UIW Friday evening at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.
The Colonels (3-6, 0-2 SLC) managed nine shots and three on goal. Senior midfielder
Mie Elvestad provided a spark off the bench as she recorded a team-high three attempts, including one that nearly snuck in on a free kick in the 73rd minute.
The Cardinals (2-5, 1-1 SLC) totaled 25 shots including nine on goal. Emily Halal found the ball at her feet after a corner in the 25th minute when she struck the ball beyond the reach of freshman goalkeeper
Taylor Benoit.
UIW's Sam Batley tallied two goals, one in each half. Her first goal came in the 29th minute on a follow-up after her first attempt from within the box was blocked. Batley's second score and the Cardinals third of the contest resulted from a beautiful through ball from teammate Brooke Hanson. Ari Cantu would find the back of the net once more in the 79th minute.
Katrina Buck and Sydney Huntsinger combined for the shutout, accumulating just three saves. Benoit notched five saves for Nicholls.
The Colonels continue SLC play Sunday against Abilene Christian. Kickoff at the Nicholls Soccer Complex is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
