Colonels set for three-match Texas road swing

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University volleyball squad is prepped for three matches in the next five days, traveling to face Sam Houston State University Tuesday, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi Thursday and the University of the Incarnate Word Saturday.

The Colonels (2-13, 0-2 SLC) dropped their first two conference matches against McNeese and Houston Baptist in straight sets.

In league play, senior outside hitter Stephanie Tobison (12 kills), freshman outside hitter Imanie Williams (11) and senior middle blocker Emily Weimer (10) have spearheaded Nicholls' offensive efforts. Defensively, Tobison has a team-high 22 digs while Weimer has accumulated three blocks.

The Colonels rank second in the conference with 16.2 digs per set.

The Bearkats (4-9, 1-0 SLC) opened their conference slate with a four-set victory over Abilene Christian. Taylor Cunningham, Jordyn Vaughn and Brooke White all recorded double-digit kills in the match.

Vaughn's 10.3 attacks and 3.5 kills per set stand atop the SLC. The Preseason All-SLC First Team honoree has earned 10-plus kills in 10 of 13 contests this season.

Texas A&M – Corpus Christi

The Islanders (5-8, 2-0 SLC) played a tough non-conference slate, facing the likes of then-No. 1 Minnesota, No. 5 Texas and No. 23 Michigan State.

Corpus Christi features the 2016 SLC Player of the Year in Brittany Gilpin, who sits in the top-10 in kills and points per set during conference play.

Saturday, Sept. 30 | McDermott Center | 11 a.m.


The Cardinals (2-7, 1-1 SLC) split their first two league matches, falling to New Orleans in five sets before besting Southeastern Louisiana in four.

Behind Bryaunea Hall and Sarea Alexander, UIW tops the SLC with 3.2 blocks per set. Preseason All-SLC First Team selection Autumn Lockley fronts the Cardinals with 2.9 kills per set.
