CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Nicholls State University volleyball squad was downed in four sets, 25-21, 19-25, 25-17, 25-13, Thursday against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi University at the Dugan Wellness Center.
The Colonels (2-15, 0-4 SLC) were spearheaded offensively by senior
Emily Weimer and junior
Brieanna Hill, who totaled 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Junior
Jade Piper tallied a match-high 29 assists. Nicholls had three student-athletes with 10-plus digs, including senior
Stephanie Tobison, who neared a double-double with eight kills.
After dropping the first set 25-21, Weimer took over in the second set to knot the match at one apiece. The Thibodaux native smashed six kills on 11 attempts in the frame including one that sparked a three-point spurt at 21-18.
The following two sets were dominated by the Islanders (7-8, 4-0 SLC) as the Colonels managed 14 kills and 13 errors.
Corpus Christi's Chloe Simon fired a match-high 12 kills, and libero Madison Woods dug a match-high 21 balls.
Nicholls returns to action Saturday at UIW. First serve is set for 11 a.m. CT.
