THIBODAUX, La. – The Southland Conference's first-place Nicholls State University men's basketball squad hosts Southeastern Louisiana University Saturday at Stopher Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

"[Southeastern] is really good," Nicholls head coach Richie Riley said. "[Head coach] Jay [Ladner] does a phenomenal job with his team. They play with an unbelievable level of toughness defensively and have one of the premier players in our league in Marlain Veal. They have a lot of depth and a lot of guys that can hurt you different ways. It's going to be a big-time challenge."

A court dedication for legendary Nicholls Hall of Fame coach Rickey Broussard will take place immediately prior to the contest. The new basketball home of the Colonels will be known as Broussard Court at Stopher Gym.

The Colonels (13-8, 7-1 SLC) received a combined 50 points and 22 rebounds from seniors Roddy Peters and Tevon Saddler in their most recent 79-74 victory at Lamar, the first win at the Montagne Center since 2014. Nicholls committed a season-high 27 turnovers but offset that with 60-percent shooting, the highest in a league game during Riley's tenure.

The Colonels have won five consecutive league games for the first time since 2009. Peters (18.1 ppg) and Saddler (16.8 ppg) rank fourth and seventh, respectively, in scoring during league play.

Veal neared a triple-double (10 points, nine assists, seven rebounds) in SLU's 75-65 loss to Sam Houston State, dropping the Lions (12-9, 6-2 SLC) to third place in the Southland. Veal ranks 28th in Division I with 5.8 assists per game. SLU has the top-ranked defense in the league, allowing just 66.5 points per SLC game.
