Colonels return to Stopher against McNeese Wednesday

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University men's basketball team commences a three-game home stretch Wednesday when it faces McNeese State University at 7 p.m. inside Stopher Gymnasium.

The Colonels (9-8, 3-1 SLC) are off to their best start in SLC play since 2014, most recently topping Houston Baptist on the road for the first time in four years. Senior Roddy Peters scored a team-high 24 points (18 in the second half) and knocked down the game-tying and game-winning free throws with 21 seconds left, resulting in a 72-71 win over the Huskies.

Through four league games, Nicholls holds the top ranking in field goal percentage defense (.371), scoring margin (+10.5) and steals per game (9.5) and second in field goal percentage (.467) and scoring defense (64.5 ppg allowed).

The Colonels boast a 2-0 SLC record at Stopher this season and an 8-3 mark under head coach Richie Riley.

The Cowboys (6-9, 2-2 SLC) dropped their last two contests to Abilene Christian and UNO. McNeese is 0-8 this season when playing on the road.

Considering conference games, the Cowboys have three of the SLC's top-15 scorers in James Harvey (17.0 ppg), Kalob Ledoux (16.8) and Jarren Greenwood (15.5). McNeese is tied with Nicholls atop the Southland with 5.8 blocks per game.
