THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University volleyball team will host Sam Houston State University Thursday and Abilene Christian University Saturday at Stopher Gym.

First serve against the Bearkats is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. while the match with the Wildcats will commence at noon. Both matches will feature a video broadcast by ESPN New Orleans. Thursday's contest will serve as a cancer awareness match. 

The Colonels (3-17, 1-6 SLC) earned at least one set in each of the last five matches. The past two matches proved more improvements from the squad. Last week Nicholls dropped a five-setter at Lamar and fell in four sets to McNeese.

The Red and Gray showed its grit against the Cardinals, erasing a 24-19 third-set deficit to eventually win the frame 28-26. Despite the loss, senior Brieanna Hill recorded her sixth double-figure kill performance of the season.

The Colonel freshmen showed flashes of their potential versus the Cowgirls; the trio of Katie Jones (14 kills), Emily Gauthreaux (11) and Aaliyah Burras (six) combined for 31 of the team's 51 kills.

vs. SHSU | Oct. 11 | 6:30 p.m.

SHSU (12-5, 4-1 SLC) was swept by Incarnate Word in its lone road conference match this season. Bearkats middle blocker Taylor Cunningham tops the league with 5.6 kills per set and ranks second with a .431 attacking percentage, lifting the team to a conference-best 14.4 kills per set.

vs. ACU | Oct. 13 | 12 p.m.

ACU (7-10, 4-1 SLC) attackers Jacey Smith (3.6 kills/set) and Katelyn Mueller (3.12 kills/set) are among the SLC Top 10 attackers, ranking fourth and ninth, respectively. Setter Kendall Bosse is second in the league with 11.0 assists per set.

Nicholls' five-set victory over the Wildcats in Stopher Gym last year with a cancer-free Jones in attendance proved to be the high point of the season. ACU went on to be the SLC Tournament runner-up.
