THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University soccer team will host Sam Houston State Friday and Stephen F. Austin on Sunday at the Nicholls Soccer Complex. Match times are slated for 4 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
A ceremony will be held on Sunday for the following student-athletes playing in their final home contest:
Haylee Atwell,
Francesca Curteis,
Kristyn Daniels,
Lindsay Gardner,
Elizabeth Newell,
Madison Slavens and
Alison Ward. The event will commence approximately 22 minutes before kickoff.
The Colonels (2-11, 0-6 SLC) most recently dropped matches to McNeese and Lamar. Nicholls improved its play tremendously against the Cardinals, holding a 17-16 edge in shots despite a 2-0 defeat. Freshman
Celine Schot provided a spark off the bench, nearly scoring twice in the second half.
The Bearkats (2-8-3, 1-3-2 SLC) received a goal from Lindsey Bienski to record its first SLC victory of the season over Northwestern State on Friday. Four of SHSU's nine goals have been scored on the road. The Bearkats have four goals in league play, three of which have come early in the first half. Goalkeeper Christina Hendersot ranks second in the conference with 71 saves and third with 5.9 saves per match.
The Colonels have not allowed a goal to SHSU since 2014.
The Ladyjacks (3-6-2, 1-3-2 SLC) fell to UCA 2-0 Friday despite outshooting the Bears 15-10 and earning three times as many corners (9-3). SFA averages 5.7 corners per game, ranking second in the Southland. Considering league play, Katelyn Termini sits eighth with 2.8 shots per contest.
