THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University volleyball team hosts the University of the Incarnate Word Thursday at Stopher Gym. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The Colonels (3-21, 1-10 SLC) are on a seven-match losing skid, most recently dropping contests to UCA and Stephen F. Austin, two teams ranked in the top four of the Southland. Junior Heidi Carpenter registered her eighth double-double of the season against the Ladyjacks, tallying 16 assists and 11 digs in addition to seven kills.

Senior right-side hitter Brieanna Hill fronts the squad with 2.5 kills per set in league play followed by freshman outside hitter Katie Jones (2.2). Only A&M-Corpus Christi (1.72) has a higher service aces per set mark than Nicholls (1.65) considering conference matchups.

The Cardinals (5-15, 3-7) broke a five-match losing streak with their four-set win over McNeese Tuesday. UIW was propelled by 20 kills from freshman Bethany Clapp and 15 kills via sophomore Julia Monday. Clapp ranks fourth in the league with 3.9 points per frame.

This is the sixth meeting between the two teams as UIW holds a 4-1 margin in the series.
