Swann records career-high 11 kills in loss to Abilene Christian

ABILENE, Texas – Sophomore Sydney Swann totaled a career-high 11 kills as the Nicholls State University volleyball team was swept, 25-15, 25-22, 25-16, Tuesday night by Abilene Christian University at Moody Coliseum.

This is the second consecutive contest that Swann finished in double figures; the Columbia, South Carolina, native converted 10 against UIW Thursday. Senior Brieanna Hill followed with seven kills.

A five-point Wildcats (13-12, 10-3 SLC) run early in the first set put the home team ahead 11-4 and the Colonels (3-23, 1-12) were never able to recover. Nicholls held a 17-12 edge in the second before ACU countered with five in a row and concluded the frame on a five-point run to steal the momentum. Swann fired four kills in each of the first two sets.

The Colonels grabbed four of the first five points in the deciding set when the Wildcats surged ahead with a 13-1 run to make the score 14-5, a nine-point deficit that Nicholls would not overcome. Swann converted 3-of-6 kills in the final set to conclude the match with an impressive .474 attacking percentage (11-2-19).

The Colonels failed to record a service ace for the fourth time this season. ACU was fronted by Katelyn Mueller's nine kills and five aces.

With the loss, Nicholls is removed from Southland Conference Tournament contention. The Colonels conclude the season with three matches inside Stopher Gym, commencing with New Orleans Saturday at 1 p.m.
