at McNeese (Watch ($), Live Stats) | vs. Lamar (Live Stats)
THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University soccer team will face McNeese in Lake Charles Friday before returning to Thibodaux to battle Lamar on Sunday at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.
Kickoff against the Cowgirls is set for 7 p.m. while the Sunday matinee versus the Cardinals will commence at 1 p.m.
The Colonels (2-9, 0-4 SLC) have dropped five straight decisions following victories over Jackson State and Alcorn, including a 6-0 thumping of the Lady Braves. Nicholls has been outscored 9-2 in league play and competed without leading scorer
Francesca Curteis in its most recent outing, a 4-0 loss to first-place Houston Baptist. Curteis and fellow senior
Haylee Atwell have the two SLC goals for the Red and Gray.
McNeese (8-4-1, 2-1-1 SLC) has not lost since a 2-1 defeat to Southeastern Louisiana on September 14 in Hammond, posting a 3-0-1 record since then while outscoring opponents 14-2. The Cowgirls boast scoring threats all over the pitch as Havana Johnson, Morgan Middleton and Anna Watson have two goals each in conference play.
McNeese is currently ranked in the top five in nine different SLC statistical categories, including second in shots, assists, and corners; third in points, goals, goals allowed average, and shutouts; and fifth in goals allowed and saves.
Lamar (7-3-1, 3-0-1 SLC) sits second in the league standings, topping Central Arkansas, Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin and tying Sam Houston State 1-1. Lucy Ashworth has contributed four goals and four assists as the team's leading point scorer. Goalkeeper Sandra Nygard ranks second in the league with 7.25 saves per contest.
The Colonels are searching for their first win against either team since the 2014 campaign.
