Texas State edges Colonels in Preseason WNIT

SAN MARCOS, Texas - Behind another double-double by senior Cassidy Barrios, the Nicholls State University played even with Texas State before the Bobcats came away with a 72-67 victory Friday night in the Preseason WNIT.

With the loss, Nicholls fell to 0-3 and will finish up action in the WNIT Saturday against Delaware. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. Texas State (1-1) and Montana State play in the winner's bracket.

Barrios had game highs with 25 points and 11 rebounds for her second-straight double-double. She shot 50 percent from the field as Nicholls finished at 46 percent, but the team struggled from behind the arc. Barrios was 3 of 7 from long range, however, the rest of the squad combined to make only 2 of 10.

Nicholls was up 31-29 at the break and had a 1-point lead after three before Texas State went ahead for good. A 3-pointer by Toshua Leavitt gave the Bobcats a 62-58 edge with 5:48 to go.

The Colonels made it a 2-point game three times but were never able to tie it up. With 1:25 remaining, Brooke Holle drained a 3-pointer for a five-point lead and went on to make a pair of free throws to seal the win.
Texas State had three players score in double figures, led by Leavitt (20) and Holle (17).
