The Nicholls State University volleyball team was swept, 25-18, 25-15, 25-17, Thursday night by Stephen F. Austin at Stopher Gym on Senior Night.

The Colonels (3-25, 1-14 SLC) received six kills apiece from junior Heidi Carpenter and freshman Katie Jones. Carpenter also chipped in 15 assists and seven digs. Senior Brieanna Hill, sophomore Sydney Swann and freshman Aaliyah Burras contributed four kills apiece.

The Ladyjacks (28-2, 15-0) showed why they are the top team in the Southland, only surrendering the lead one time the entire match on a set-opening service error in the second and finishing with an impressive 11-1 advantage in blocks.

SFA grabbed an 8-2 advantage early in the opening set backed by two kills from Anyia Williams. Jones later fired a kill to put the Colonels within four at 12-8, but the Ladyjacks responded with a five-point burst capped by back-to-back Haley Coleman kills to grab a comfortable 17-8 margin to eventually take the set.

After the serving mishap, SFA went on a 7-2 run and used three Nicholls errors during a five-point spurt later in the frame to go ahead 14-5. The Colonels had three student-athletes record multiple kills but committed 10 errors and tallied just seven kills.

The Ladyjacks jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the deciding set when Coleman's serve nicked the back-boundary line. Nicholls would come as close as two at 11-9 when Carpenter got a kill via a block error, but SFA quickly denied the comeback by scoring six of the next seven points.

The Colonels later made a five-point run behind Burras' float serve, putting the Red and Gray back within two at 18-16. The Ladyjacks countered by closing the match on a 7-1 run that was concluded by a solo block from setter Ann Hollas.

Coleman totaled a match-high 11 digs and libero Sabrina Monaco patrolled the backline with a match-high 10 digs. Hollas filled up the stat sheet with 16 assists, six digs, four blocks and three kills.

Nicholls closes its season on Saturday against Central Arkansas at Stopher Gym. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
