BOSTON – The Nicholls State University men's basketball team was outscored 46-22 in the paint during a 75-63 defeat to Boston University Saturday afternoon at Case Gym.
Graduate transfer
Jeremiah Jefferson set the tone early for the Colonels, drilling a 3-pointer seven seconds into the contest. Nicholls tallied eight of the first 10 points of the game, capped by a
Kevin Johnson triple.
The Terriers took their first lead of the game at the 8:15 mark and outscored the Colonels 20-9 from that point, forcing six Nicholls turnovers during that stretch. Junior forward
Elvis Harvey finished with 10 points in the first half on an efficient 4-of-6 shooting from the floor.
The Colonels pulled within single digits several times in the second half, coming as close as seven when Jefferson drained a trey with 8:45 to play. BU countered with 10 of the next 13 points and was able to seal the win despite being outscored 37-36 in the second half.
Jefferson totaled a game-high 21 points on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Harvey and graduate transfer
Gavin Peppers chipped in 13 apiece. The Terriers received a team-high 20 points from Max Mahoney, who converted 9-of-11 attempts.
The Colonels have a quick turnaround, traveling to face Monroe on Tuesday. Tipoff at Fant-Ewing Coliseum is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
