THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University men's basketball team will face the University of Mobile Saturday afternoon at Stopher Gym to start its final two-game home stretch before Southland Conference play. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Fans will receive a $5 ticket with any toy or canned food item.
The Colonels (5-6) are searching to break a two-game losing skid after falling to ULM, 95-68, Tuesday without the services of starting guard
Gavin Peppers. Nicholls had five double-figure scorers and connected on 12-of-12 free throws in the second half but was whistled for nine fouls during the first seven minutes of the contest.
Junior
Brandon Moore Jr. collected his second double-double of the season, totaling 10 points and a season-high 12 boards. Sophomore Jeremiah Burford drained two 3-pointers en route to 10 points, his first double-digit scoring performance in the Red and Gray.
The Colonels have the fifth-best free throw percentage in Division I at 78.5 percent but have attempted 100 less free throws than their opponents (235-135). Peppers ranks eighth in the nation and first in the league at 94.4 percent, making 34-of-36 from the charity stripe.
The Rams (5-4) are a NAIA Division I affiliate and a member of the Southern States Athletic Conference. Nicholls topped Mobile 96-52 last season in Thibodaux.
