After coming up short in the first four games of the season, the Colonels picked up wins on the road versus UTEP and Texas Southern, and followed up with victories at home against SUNO and Mississippi Valley State.
Defense has been the key to the Colonels' success during their current winning streak. The opposition is averaging just 52.2 points on 38 percent shooting from the field. Nicholls has also been active on the boards, out-rebounding its opponents by 13.8 rebounds per game.
Senior
Cassidy Barrios continues to lead the offense after posting her sixth and seventh 20-point efforts last week. In the win against Valley, she also had a season-high 16 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season and is collecting 10.9 boards per game. Averaging 20.8 points this season, Barrios is just one point shy of becoming the third Colonel in program history to score 1,500 for their career.
Junior transfer
Chrystal Ezechukwu had a double-double against the Devilettes as well, registering career highs in points (15) and rebounds (13). Ezechukwu is third on the team in scoring at 6.4 points and is second in rebounding with 5.4 per game.
Tulane is 6-1 on the year with its only loss coming against ranked California. The Green Wave have won three straight, and have victories over LSU and Washington. Their last outing was a 71-54 win at home against Southern Miss.
Tulane has four players averaging at least 8.0 points, led by Krystal Freeman (14.1 ppg) and Sierra Cheatman (11.6). Freeman, a 6-foot forward from Pineville, scored a season-high 22 in a win over Cleveland State and has a team-best 55.6 field goal percentage.
The series between the two school resumes after a three-year hiatus, which Tulane leads, 30-12, helped by its current 14-game winning streak. The Green Wave defeated Nicholls in the last matchup in 2014, 77-44.
