THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University men's basketball squad looks to buck another trend Wednesday night when it faces Sam Houston State University in an 8:15 p.m. contest on Broussard Court at Stopher Gym.

The contest will be televised by Eleven Sports/CST with Garrett Walvoord and Jordy Hultberg on the call.

The Colonels (16-9, 10-2 SLC) are looking for their first victory over the Bearkats (16-10, 10-3 SLC) since 2013, dropping each of the last five matchups. Nicholls has broken similar tendencies already this season, winning at Lamar and HBU for the first time since 2014, at UNO (2015) and topping Northwestern State (2013).

Senior guard Roddy Peters was nearly named Southland Conference Player of the Week for the second straight week as his last two outings have consisted of a near triple-double against Abilene Christian and a double-double versus HBU. Peters has tallied 20-plus points in eight of the last 10 and double figures in all but two games.

In league play, the Colonels are 6-1 at home with an average victory margin of 21.2.

SHSU is fronted by Chris Galbreath Jr., who has a league-high 10 double-doubles. He leads the team with 15.0 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per game. The Bearkats are on a four-game winning streak but all three of their conference losses have come on the road.
