THIBODAUX, La.  –
The last six quarters for the Nicholls State University women's basketball team have been near perfect, and the Colonels will look to continue their hot streak as they go for the season sweep of the HBU Huskies. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon in Stopher Gymnasium.

Last Saturday, Nicholls (10-12, 5-6 SLC) entered the second half trailing rival New Orleans, 31-15, but the Colonels have dominated the opposition ever since. After coming back to beat the Privateers, the Red and Gray led for all but the opening five seconds in the 81-60 win over Abilene Christian on Wednesday. In the last game-and-a-half, the Colonels have outscored their opponents, 87-57.

Play on both ends of the court has been superb. The 33-point third quarter at UNO was a season-best, and the 51.8 shooting percentage against ACU was the second-highest for the season. Defensively, the Colonels allowed just nine points in the third period versus Abilene Christian and held them to 39 percent from the field.

While Cassidy Barrios (15.5 ppg) has continued her MVP season with 20-point double-doubles in the last two games and Tykeria Williams (13.3) scored in double figures in both outings, the offense had a few players step up offensively. Against UNO, freshman Bryanna Washington came off the bench and had 10 points and seven rebounds in a season-high 30 minutes of play. Last Wednesday, senior Tia Charles dished out a career-high nine assists, and Airi Hamilton missed just one field goal, scoring 13 points.

HBU comes to Thibodaux looking to snap a three-game losing streak after their eight-point loss at Central Arkansas on Wednesday. HBU is in the thick of a heavy road slate as Nicholls will be the fourth away game for the Huskies in the last five contests.

HBU is led by All-Southland candidate; guard Amanda Johnson, who is averaging 16.2 points overall and in league play. Johnson had a big first half against the Colonels in the last meeting in Houston, scoring 15 of her 17 points to lead the Huskies to an 11-point halftime advantage. In the 64-56 loss to UCA, she scored 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting and Sydney Carr had 17, but they were the only two players to score more than six points. In league games, HBU has struggled taking care of the ball, averaging 22.5 turnovers a game.

Nicholls leads the all-time series against HBU, 4-2, helped by a two-game winning streak. The Colonels rallied for a 12-point victory versus the Huskies in early January.
