THIBODAUX, La. – Junior
Kasey Frederick had a triple and a double to drive in all three runs as the Nicholls State University softball team stayed undefeated in Southland Conference play with a 3-2 victory over Stephen F. Austin Saturday afternoon at Swanner Field.
The Colonels improved their record to 19-7 overall, 6-0 in the Southland and 5-0 at home. Nicholls is currently the only undefeated team in conference.
Frederick was one of three Colonels with two hits, joined by
Kelsey Miller and
Gretchen Morgan. Frederick gave Nicholls a 2-0 lead in the first with her first triple of the year. After SFA scored on a wild pitch in the fourth, Frederick doubled home Miller in the fifth to push the lead back to 3-1.
In the seventh, SFA's Taylor Fraccastoro continued to swing a hot bat for the Ladyjacks, roping a two-out single to make it 3-2. But after another single,
Alexis LaBure (5-3) forced a groundout to end the game.
LaBure tossed 3.2 innings in relief, striking out four while allowing three hits.
Megan Landry made the start, lasting 3.1 innings with four hits and a strikeout.
