HAMMOND, La. – The No. 1 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament is at stake Saturday when the Nicholls State University men's basketball team battles Southeastern Louisiana University at the University Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.

The contest will broadcast live on Eleven Sports with Jeff Palermo and Jordy Hultberg on the call. Viewers without Eleven Sports can watch the live stream on the Southland Digital Network through the Southland Conference app available on iPhone, Android, Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku.

"There's a lot at stake," Nicholls head coach Richie Riley said. "I'm glad that we were able to take care of business at Northwestern State to guarantee us a piece of that prize, something that hasn't been done here since 1998. I think it takes the pressure off of our crew a little bit. We should be able to play loose and really play relaxed."

The Colonels (21-9, 15-2 SLC) have won eight in a row and with a victory Saturday will boast the program's best league record since 1995. Nicholls prevailed 73-70 over Northwestern State Wednesday, claiming at least a share of the SLC regular-season title. Senior guard Roddy Peters poured in 32 points, marking his third performance this season with 30-plus points. The Washington D.C. native has scored 20-plus in 11 of the last 15.

The Lions (20-10, 14-3 SLC) flaunt a seven-game winning streak, topping New Orleans 68-64 in their final road test of the regular season. Joshua Filmore totaled a game-high 23 points on a 5-8 effort from 3-point range. Marlain Veal, the league-leader in assists per game (6.1), added 13 points and six helpers. Considering league play, SLU has allowed a league-best 66.2 points per game.

"The crazy part about this year – last year 13-5 won the league outright," Riley said. "This year we're sitting 15-2 and Southeastern is 14-3. It's really stepped up another level, and I think it'll continue to do that. I think it's underappreciated across the country."

These two teams met in Thibodaux on Jan. 27 when the Lions pulled out a 67-63 win behind 20 points from Moses Greenwood.
