TUCSON, Ariz. – The Nicholls State University baseball team fell 11-3 to Arizona Thursday night at Hi Corbett Field.
Colonels junior starting pitcher Jake Bedevian had a forgettable first inning as he allowed five runs on four hits and two free passes with a walk and hit by pitch.
Nicholls (9-16) answered with two runs in the third inning when three singles loaded the bases and senior shortstop
Joey Morales plated seniors
Brady Bell and
Lee Clark.
Bedevian settled in nicely, tossing clean innings in the second and third before allowing another run in the fourth on a triple by Cesar Salazar to conclude his night. Bedevian (0-5) would be handed the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits in four innings.
Bell and Clark recorded singles again in the fifth inning and the latter brought home Bell as left fielder Ryan Haug misplayed the ball, putting Nicholls within three at 6-3.
The Wildcats (14-10) added an insurance run in the fifth and two more in the seventh and eighth innings to secure the victory.
Senior shortstop
Joey Morales extended his hitting streak to eight games with a team-high three hits and two RBIs. Fellow seniors
Brady Bell and
Lee Clark added two hits apiece.
Wildcats relief pitcher Robby Medel improved to 2-0 as he held the Colonels in check for 4.2 innings, surrendering just one unearned run.
