THIBODAUX, La. – Junior right-handed pitcher
Parker White did not allow an earned run through eight innings during Nicholls State University's 4-3 victory over Mississippi Valley State University Wednesday night at Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field.
White tossed a career-high 137 pitches, allowing just one hit through the first five innings. He scattered four hits and struck out six. White's lone blemish came in the sixth inning. After an error by
Joey Morales with two outs, White served up a fastball with the bases loaded that Delta Devils (10-21) third baseman Wendell Rieves turned on for a bases-clearing double.
At the plate, the Colonels (15-23) were fronted by seniors
Lee Clark and
Chet Niehaus, who recorded two hits each. Fellow senior
Kyle Knauth drove in two necessary insurance runs in the fourth inning, stroking a two-out single near the warning track in right field.
Clark and Niehaus accounted for the other two runs. Niehaus roped a double to right field in the first inning and Clark plated Niehaus in the third on a single through the right side.
Graduate student
Christian Bahlinger earned his third save of the season, throwing a scoreless ninth after White allowed a single and plunked Marshall Parrish. Nicholls handed Nicholas Johnson (3-5) the loss as he pitched three innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks.
The Colonels improved to 5-0 on Weenie Wednesday this season.
Nicholls travels to Hammond on Friday for a SLC game against Southeastern Louisiana. The two teams will face off on Pat Kennelly Diamond at Alumni Field Friday and Saturday before returning to the Did for the finale on Sunday.
