PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Seniors Lee Clark, Kyle Knauth and Joey Morales recorded a home run Wednesday afternoon as the Nicholls State University baseball team recorded a 17-8 win against Prairie View A&M University at John Tankersly Field.
 
Knauth, Morales and fellow senior Chet Niehaus finished with three hits apiece. Knauth drove in a career-high five runs and finished a triple short of the cycle.
 
Nicholls received stellar outings by pitchers Brandon Andrews and Zach Autin, who combined for three hitless innings to conclude the contest. Senior lefty Jarred Scott picked up his first win in the Red and Grey, surrendering two runs in 1.2 innings.
 
The Panthers (12-31) were fronted offensively by Jalyn Baker (2-3, 2 RBI), Corbin Jamison (3-5, RBI) and Steven Williams (2-4, 2 RBI). Jerson Hardit fell to 1-3 on the mound as he allowed 12 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits and two walks in five innings.
 
The Colonels trailed 4-1 in the third inning when the offense poured in four runs, capped by Knauth's RBI double and followed by Clark's homer. PVAMU tallied two runs in the bottom of the fourth to regain a 6-5 lead, but Nicholls used homers by Knauth and Morales in the next two innings to regain control.
 
The Colonels return to action Friday at Stephen F. Austin, the first of a three-game set. First pitch at Jaycees Field is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
