THIBODAUX, La. -  The Nicholls State University jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead over Southern University Sunday at the Nicholls Soccer Complex, but a prolonged lightning delay in the 55^th minute caused the match to be ruled a no contest.

The Colonels led 5-1 when the first lightning strike touched down within six miles. By rule, the match cannot restart more than three hours after a Sunday kickoff. Therefore, the match was called following a lightning strike at 3:31 p.m.

Nicholls will return to action Friday at UIW. Kickoff in San Antonio is scheduled for 5 p.m.
