THIBODAUX, La. -  The Nicholls State University soccer team tallied four second-half goals en route to a 6-0 stomping of Alcorn State University Sunday afternoon at Yockey Bernard Field.

Senior midfielder Francesca Curteis continued her recent hot streak, contributing two goals and an assist. The Llanfyllin, Great Britain, native scored in the 14th minute following a beautiful through ball from redshirt senior Alison Ward and again in the 55th minute. Curteis returned the favor in the 56th minute, finding Ward in the box to put the Colonels (2-4) ahead 4-0.

Nicholls' first goal came in the seventh minute when senior midfielder Kristyn Daniels fired a shot that Lady Braves keeper Kameran Proby deflected into the run of junior forward Kristy Helmers. Junior midfielder Chloe Shipway earned her first goal in the red and gray during the 73rd minute, receiving a through ball from junior Tessa Calabria before chipping it around the keeper.

The final score for the Colonels came in the 79th minute on an Alcorn (0-3) own goal.

Nicholls totaled 36 shots, including 18 on target. Curteis fronted the squad with eight shots followed by Calabria and Shipway with five apiece.

The Lady Braves managed just five shots. Yaira Guardado carried Alcorn offensively with three attempts and two on target that were both saved by junior goalkeeper Roosa Hurmerinta.

The Colonels will have Friday off before hosting Southern Miss on Sunday at 1 p.m.
