THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University soccer team will open Southland Conference play Friday at UIW and conclude its two-match road swing Sunday at Abilene Christian.

The Colonels are 2-5 this season but have won two of their last three by a margin of 8-1. Nicholls was leading Southern 5-1 when the match was called due to lightning. Nicholls ranks second in the league with 18.7 shots per game. Senior Francesca Curteis has at least seven attempts in three of the last four matches.

The Cardinals (0-5) are still searching for their first win of the season, dropping matches to Houston, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Prairie View A&M and UTSA. UIW has been outscored 16-2. Emily Halal and Cloe Morales have the lone two scores for the Cardinals.

The Wildcats (5-3, 0-1 SLC) most recently fell to Houston Baptist in double overtime, breaking a three-match winning streak. ACU's defense is stout, holding the top goals against average (0.72) in the conference. Goalkeeper Rachel Johnson sits atop the SLC with an .897 save percentage.
