Live Stats

THIBODAUX, La. – Following a grueling 16-match road stretch to open the season, the Nicholls State University volleyball team will finally play an opponent in Stopher Gym, hosting Southeastern Louisiana Thursday and Northwestern State Saturday.

First serve against the Lady Lions is set for 6:30 p.m. while the tilt with the Lady Demons will commence at 11 a.m.

The Colonels (2-14, 0-3 SLC) nearly pulled out their first league victory of the 2018 season but were upended by UNO Tuesday in five sets despite career performances by junior Emily Venable and freshmen Aaliyah Burras and Emily Gauthreaux.

Venable totaled a career- and match-high 30 digs while Burras and Gauthreaux eclipsed career bests with 12 and 14 kills, respectively. Junior Heidi Carpenter recorded a double-double, and senior Brieanna Hill pounded 17 kills to spearhead the offense. Hill has a team-high 121 kills this season followed by Carpenter's 78 and sophomore Kimberly Iwunze's 70.

Southeastern (1-12, 0-2 SLC) has dropped its last 11 matches, falling to UIW in four sets before being swept by UCA in its two league battles. Elyssa Purcell fronts the team with 86 kills. The Lady Lions run a 6-2 offensive system with setters Haley Baker (3.8 assists/set) and Michelle Mirarchi (3.5 aps).

Northwestern (5-7, 1-1 SLC) topped UIW in four sets to open conference play but lost to Stephen F. Austin in straight sets on Tuesday. The Lady Demons had a memorable weekend at the Redhawks Invitational, reigning victorious against Radford, UL-Monroe and host Southeastern Missouri. Northwestern boasts three league leaders in Channing Burleson (5.2 digs per set), Reagan Rogers (11.1 attacks per set) and Brooke Wood (1.5 blocks per set).
