THIBODAUX, La. – In the midst of a six-game home stretch, the Nicholls State University soccer team will face the University of Southern Miss at 1 p.m. Sunday on Yockey Bernard Field.
The Colonels (2-4) have won their last two contests, outscoring Jackson State 2-1 and Alcorn 6-0. Senior midfielder
Francesca Curteis totaled four goals and an assist in those two contests, scoring both goals against the Lady Tigers and chipping in two goals and an assist versus the Lady Braves. Curteis is tied with Lamar's Kelso Peskin atop the Southland in goals per game (0.83).
The Golden Eagles (4-1) are on a four-match winning streak, topping Louisiana-Monroe and Texas Southern 7-0 before picking up 4-3 and 1-0 victories over Grambling and Southeastern La., respectively. Miah Zuazua ranks second in Division I with 1.2 goals per game and first in the nation in points per game (3.0).
Nicholls is 1-6-1 against Southern Miss with its lone win coming in Hattiesburg on Aug. 22, 2014.
