THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University men's basketball team will bring a three-game winning streak to Saturday's matchup against UIW Saturday. Tipoff at the McDermott Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Fans can follow the game on ESPN New Orleans 100.3 FM with Voice of the Colonels Bryant Johnson on the call.

The Colonels (8-6, 1-0 SLC) won their second consecutive conference opener over Northwestern State Wednesday, holding on to a 78-72 victory in Natchitoches. Graduate transfer Gavin Peppers collected a career-high 24 points and junior Brandon Moore Jr. earned his third double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 boards.

Fellow graduate transfer Jeremiah Jefferson extended his double-digit scoring streak to six games and made a difference passing the ball with a career-high six assists, two of which set up Peppers for trifectas. Jefferson's 17.4 points per game rank third in the league.

Senior center Daniel Regis has made his presence felt on the defensive end, recording at least block in all but one contest this season. Consequently, his 2.1 blocks per game sit atop the Southland and 36th in Division I.

The game will feature two of the top free throw shooting teams in the country. Nicholls' 78.4 percent conversion rate from the charity stripe ranks second in the league while UIW's 79.9 fronts the nation. Cardinals (5-9, 0-1) student-athletes Morgan Taylor (62) and Christian Peevy (59) rank first and second, respectively, in free throws made in the SLC.

UIW dropped its conference opener, 88-77, to McNeese on Wednesday despite an 18-point breakout performance from freshman Dwight Murray Jr.

The Colonels hold a 4-4 record against the Cardinals, winning the last four matchups by an average of 11.8 points.
