Scoring 101: Offensive outburst leads Colonels to win over Paul Quinn

THIBODAUX, La. – Playing in the friendly confines of Stopher Gymnasium for the first time this season, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team lit up the scoreboard for its third-highest total in school history as the Colonels defeated Paul Quinn College, 101-68, Monday afternoon in front of over 1,000 boisterous fans on Kids Day.

Nicholls (1-3) feed off the electric atmosphere to race out to a 27-8 advantage after 10 minutes of play. A 28-point second quarter resulted in a 55-27 lead at the break and the Colonels went on to cruise to their first victory.

Adrian Mann led five Colonels in double figures and was perfect on the day. The sophomore guard hit all six of her field goal attempts, which included three from behind the arc, and was 4 of 4 at the free throw line. Tykeria Williams also had a stellar performance with a 14-point, 10-assists double-double while Destiny Collins finished with career-high 15 points. Airi Hamilton (16) and Loan-Anh Johnson (11) rounded out the leading scorers.

The Colonel defense pressured the Tigers (2-3) into 20 turnovers for the game, including 13 in the opening half. One of the turnovers led to an easy bucket by Mann before the break, giving Nicholls a commanding 52-22 advantage.

Paul Quinn outscored Nicholls by two in the third, 25-23, but could never piece together a real threat after falling behind early. Symone Carmenar netted a game-high 25 points for the visitors.
