Colonels look to extend hot streak in JU Thanksgiving Classic

THIBODAUX, La. – After scoring 101 and 94 points in a pair of home wins, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team heads to Floriday looking to extend its winning streak with two games in the JU Thanksgiving Classic.

Nicholls (2-3) will face host Jacksonville University on Friday (Nov. 29) at 1 p.m. before taking on North Florida on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Colonels have won their last two games, both in Thibodaux, by lighting up the scoreboard against Paul Quinn College and SUNO. Nicholls shot over 50 percent in the victories while the defense forced a combined 51 turnovers. 

Adrian Mann and Airi Hamilton continue to lead the offense, averaging 11.2 and 10.4 points, respectively. Both scored in double figures in the last two games, with Hamilton netting 16 in each of the contests. Mann's 19 points against PQC was the best scoring game for the Colonels this season.

Senior Tykeria Williams is third in scoring at 9.4 points per game and has a team-high 17 assists. Williams scored 12 in the last outing to become the 16th Colonel in program history to score 1,000 career points. 

Jacksonville heads into the weekend with a 3-3 record after wins over Thomas (Ga.), Johnson, and USC Upstate. Its three losses were against tough competition - USF, Florida State, and Colorado. Destiny Marshall in the lone Dolphin in double figures at 13.5 points per game, helped by a season-high 20 points at FSU.

North Florida is 4-3 including a win over Florida International. In its previous game, UNF defeated Marist, 80-70, behind 27 points from Janesha Green and 23 from Tiffany Tolbert. Green leads a trio of double-digit scorers at 14.9 point per game, while Tolbert is third at 10.4. Jazz Bond is the second-leading scorer with 13.1 points.
