Colonel women’s tennis comes up short in conference action

THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's tennis team hosted conference foes Northwestern State and Central Arkansas over the weekend and was defeated 5-2 and 7-0 at the Colonel Tennis Complex.

Nicholls has dropped its last six matches and fell to 2-8 and 0-4.

Friday against Northwestern State, the Colonels' lone points of the weekend were via Stephanie Barnett and Marina Vigil on the singles court. Barnett picked up a three-set victory against Polina Mutel at No. 1, while Marina Vigil also won in three sets at No. 2 versus Maria Skyba.

Vigil also teamed up with Antonia Roessli for a win in No. 3 doubles, but NSU won courts 1 and 2 to earn the point.

The Colonels were shutout against Central Arkansas with the Bears taking five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Barnett battled with Southland reigning player of the week Chunxi Xin on the top line, but was edged in a thriller, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 8-10.
