Jeanpiere signs with Panthers, Ollie to Raiders camp

THIBODAUX, La. - A pair of Nicholls State University football players will look to continue their careers in the National Football League (NFL) as wide receiver Damion Jeanpiere Jr. signed as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Carolina Panthers and Ronald Ollie received an invite to the Oakland Raiders rookie mini-camp.

Jeanpiere lettered all four years for the Colonels and finished second on the Nicholls all-time receiving list with 2,324 yards. He is coming off a career-high 850 yards receiving on 44 receptions, with three going for touchdowns. He was one of the FCS' top deep threats, ranking 13th in the nation with 19.32 yards per catch.

A graduate of Archbishop Rummel, Jeanpiere garnered All-Southland honorable mention last season after recording three 100-yard games. His best outing came in the playoff win over San Diego where he tallied 143 yards and a touchdown on seven receptions.

Ollie returned to the gridiron after sitting out last season and made a significant impact on the defensive line. He totaled 13.5 tackles for loss in his senior campaign, with 5.0 sacks and a pair of fumble recoveries. The Colonel defense tied for third in tackles for loss in the FCS and fourth in sacks.

Of the 254 draft picks in the seven-round NFL Draft, only 13 played at the FCS level. The last two Colonels to make camps were in 2017 when B.T. Sanders and Chris Bordelon signed rookie free agent deals.
