MOBILE, Ala. -- The Nicholls State University women's volleyball program (6-5, 0-0 Southland) battled stiff competition Saturday afternoon at the South Alabama Invitational, dropping a straight-sets match to the host Jaguars (8-5, 0-0 Sun Belt) in the tournament finale at Jag Gym in Mobile, Ala.
KEY STORYLINES & STATISTICS (L 0-3)
-- The Colonels fell in staright sets for just the second time this season -- Sept. 14 vs. Louisiana-Monroe.
-- Offensively, the Red & Gray were anchored by junior
Kate Hoerdemann (7 kills) along with sophomores
Aaliyah Burras &
Katie Jones (6 kills apiece).
-- Freshman
Lilly Bivens stepped into the starting lineup for the first time this season, posting a team-high 15 assists with five digs and one block.
-- Defensively, senior
Emily Venable led the way behind nine digs while Hoerdemann picked up seven on the day.
UP NEXT
With the South Alabama Invitational wrapped up, the Colonels shift their focus to the team's upcoming Southland Conference opener at UNO on Thursday, Sept. 26, first serve set for 6:30 p.m. in New Orleans, La.
