THIBODAUX, La. -- The Nicholls State University women's volleyball program (5-0, 0-0 Southland) wrapped up the Colonels Classic with a dominant performance Saturday morning, downing Alcorn State (2-2, 0-0 SWAC) in straight sets and improving to a perfect 5-0 record for the first time in program history. As has become custom, freshman OH
Jackie Alanis composed a strong offensive showing, leading the team behind a squad-high 14 kills and a staggering .542 hitting percentage.
KEY STORYLINES & STATISTICS (W 3-0)
-- For the second consecutive time this year, the Colonels managed to secure the match victory behind a straight sets sweep, a feat the 2018 squad accomplished just twice over the course of the season (vs. Mississippi Valley State & vs. Southeastern Louisiana).
-- Beyond Alanis, the Nicholls offense generated a relatively even spread among the other primary weapons, as junior OH
Kate Hoerdemann & sophomore RS
Katie Jones each picked up seven kills while fellow sophomore MB
Aaliyah Burras notched six.
-- Burras also put on a strong showing defensively, leading the team in blocks behind a combined five on the day (three solo, two assisted). The sophomore also led the squad in service aces, recording two in the win.
-- Junior S
Meghan Wozniak continued her notable performance as a setter, notching 29 during the win along with three kills and seven digs.
-- Defensively, both Hoerdemann & senior L
Emily Venable shared the load effectively, tallying a team-best 10 digs apiece.
