BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Nicholls State University track & field program put together a successful opening meet of the 2020 indoor track & field season, wrapping up the LSU Purple Tiger with eight new personal bests -- not to mention six performances ranked inside the school's all-time top 10 -- at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse in Baton Rouge, La.

"Omo had a a fantastic meet running her lifetime debut in the 60m hurdles in 8.89 to claim the No. 2 All-Time spot in the Nicholls record book. She then ran an Indoor lifetime personal best in the 400m (59.33), missing the All-Time Top 10 list by just .01 and finished the day leading off our 4x400m in the fastest split and best season opener 4x400m relay time in at least the past four years for Nicholls."
KEY STORYLINES & FINISHES
-- The Colonels secured eight new personal bests while at the LSU Purple Tiger, including: Hailey Alcorn in the 400m (1:01.55); Kiara Bethley in the 60m dash (7.97); Eleana Callejas in the 600m (1:52.29); Faith Keter in the one mile race (6:06.21); Omo Oboh in the 400m sprint (59.33); Chelsea Harrington in the long jump (18-.03.00); Eric Brown in the 600m (1:42.44); and Cameron Carter in the 600m (1:25.66).
-- Additionally, 15 freshman made their official track & field debuts, including:

-- All together, the group finished with six new all-time top ten school records, including: Oboh, in her career debut at the 60m hurdles (8.89), moved into the No. 2 overall slot; both true freshman Matthews (1:49.76) and junior Callejas (1:52.29) moved into the eighth and ninth spots, respectively, in the 600m; Rijpstra continued her excellent freshman year behind a strong showing in the 3,000m (10:50.36), sliding into the No. 8 rank; and finally, both sophomore Harrington and freshman Land (16-05.75) notched third and 10th, respectively, in the long jump.
-- In terms of placements, Nicholls closed out the meet with 17 finishes inside the top ten, including: Narcisse grabbing second in the 200m dash (26.08); Oboh notching sixth (59.33) and
Maerys Joseph placing ninth (59.79) in the 400m dash; Callejas (2:40.27), Graham (2:49.27), Goodman (2:52.61) and Seal (2:53.57) posting seventh through 10th in the 800m run; Rijpstra (10:50.36), Christensen (11:11.23) and
Lara Reifers (11:13.08) picking up second, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 3,000m; Oboh notching ninth in the 60m hurdles (8.89); the Nicholls team composed of Alcorn,
Anginique Andrews, Land and Joseph finishing sixth (4:04.07) in the 4x400m relay; Harrington placing eighth (18-03.00) in the long jump; Janes grabbing third in the 200m dash (26.34); Carter posting fifth (53.52) in the 400m dash as well as 10th (1:25.66) in the 600m run; and
Jeremy Rogers placing 10th (19-06.25) in the long jump.
