Final Stats THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team held a lead early in the fourth quarter against Central Arkansas, but the offense was limited to five points the rest of the way as the Colonels were defeated, 53-46, Saturday afternoon in Stopher Gymnasium.
Nicholls (4-13, 1-7 SLC) went up by two points at 41-39 in the fourth after
Tykeria Williams drained a 3-pointer, however, they would not score another field goal until the final seconds after UCA (8-9, 4-4 SLC) built a double-digit lead. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak in the series against the Sugar Bears.
For the second straight game, points were at a premium for the Colonels as they shot 14 of 54 from the field, finishing at 25.9 percent. Nicholls connected on 17 of 22 at the free-throw line and had only eight turnovers, but it was not enough to squeeze out a victory.
Senior
Airi Hamilton was the lone Colonel to finish 50 percent from the field, scoring a game-high 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Williams totaled nine points and added three assists and three steals.
UCA was led by Briana Trigg and Hannah Langhi, who finished with 14 and 13 points, respectively. The Sugar Bears shot 40 percent from the field and had a significant advantage in rebounding, 41-26.
Central Arkansas led for most of the game, going up by as much as nine in the first half. The Colonels made a push right before the break to cut the deficit to 25-22.
UCA kept the lead in the third until Hamilton scored inside to even the game at 32-32. Nicholls grabbed the lead briefly before the end of the third and then for the last time after Williams' 3-pointer.

The Colonels head back to Texas for a Wednesday (Jan. 22) matchup with HBU. Tipoff in Houston is scheduled for 7 p.m.
