THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's tennis team started its 2020 spring season with a 6-1 victory over Alcorn Tuesday afternoon at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
Playing a shorthanded Braves squad, Nicholls (1-0) took the two doubles matches for the point and headed into singles with 3-0 advantage due to a pair of wins by default.
Ricardo de Sales Chaves Machado quickly clinched the team victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3.
Omar Hussein followed with a win at No. 4 by the same score and
Pavle Drobnjakovic gave Nicholls its final point with a 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2. Alcorn's Gjorgji Popovaski prevented the shutout with a 7-5, 6-3 win against Colonel
Piyush Surendra Salekar on the No. 1 court.
For doubles action, Drobnjakovic and Hussein teamed up for a 6-1 triumph on court 2. Machado and Salekar battled with Popovski and Santiago Rocca at No. 1 and eventually came away with a 7-6 (7-4) victory.

The Colonels will head to Mobile on Saturday, Feb. 1 for a matchup against South Alabama. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
