Colonel Men’s Tennis earns split in Mississippi, Women come up short

JACKSON, Miss. - The Nicholls State University men's tennis team claimed a dramatic win Sunday at Jackson State, 4-3, to wrap up a weekend in Mississippi.
The women's team also had a battle with JSU, but fell in a 4-3 decision. Both teams played Southern Miss on Saturday as the men dropped the match, 5-2, and the women lost 7-0.

Against Jackson State, the men fell behind after dropping the doubles point. But the bottom of the singles lineup put Nicholls ahead as Prasanna Pravi Bagade and Antoine Martin-Thiriat won in straight sets. Omar Hussein added a win at No. 3 and two JSU wins tied the match at 3-3.

Pavle Drobnjakovic won his first set at No. 2 and dropped the second, 7-5. The decisive set came down to the wire and Drobnjakovic claimed the 7-5 victory over Richy Gamo.

For the women, Laura Lopez, Carla Bouygeus and Morgan Forshag won at No. 1, 3, and 6, respectively. But JSU came out on top in the lone three-set match for a 4-3 win.

On Saturday, Martin-Thiriat and Ricardo de Sales Chaves Machado picked up points in singles in the 5-2 loss to the Golden Eagles.
