THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's tennis team received a singles victory by Simona Maksimovic against Stephen F. Austin, but it would be the lone point for the Colonels in a 6-1 setback Sunday afternoon at the Colonel Tennis Complex.

Nicholls (1-8) has dropped its last seven matches and falls to 0-2 in the Southland. SFA upped its record to 6-6 and 1-1.

SFA led 3-0 after the doubles point and two wins in singles before Maksimovic claimed a straight-set victory against Gabi Guilarte at No. 2. Laura Lopez and Carla Bouygues had close sets in their losses but could not prevent the Ladyjacks from clinching the team victory.

At the No. 4 line, Lingfeng Gu battled with Armelle Cerdan for three sets. Gu won the first, 6-4, before falling in the second, 7-6 (7-5). In the tiebreaker, Cerdan escaped with an 11-9 victory.
