Women's Track & Field

Four program records fall at Indoor SLC Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Following a positive start to the meet on Sunday, the Nicholls State University track & field program finished strong at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships on Monday afternoon, totaling four new school records -- three individual and one group -- along with 12 personal marks as the women's squad sealed the team's highest point-total (18) in five seasons at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Post-meet, head coach Stefanie Slekis remained enthusiastic about her team's performance at the SLC Championships, commending all four new program records and denoting her excitement about using the momentum now to start strong in the upcoming outdoor season.

"Sophomores Omo Oboh and Hailey Alcorn continued the momentum we had been building this season and capitalized on the opportunity they had against great competition to not only earn podium finishes, but also improve on their personal bests and school records," Slekis said. "Both came back on the 4x400m Relay as Oboh, Anginique Andrews, Maerys Joseph, and Alcorn beat the school record by 5.5 seconds. Chelsea Harrington also put points on the board with a 6th place finish in the long jump and new school record. Our women's team has done a tremendous job of buying into our program goals of doing the little things to be at our best academically and athletically and it was amazing to see all of their hard work pay off in a championship setting."

KEY STORYLINES & FINISHES -- DAY TWO
-- Despite competing in the event for just the fourth time ever, sophomore Omo Oboh snapped her own school record behind a 8.57 mark in the 60m Hurdles, capturing a third-place podium finish in the process.
-- Just minutes later, fellow sophomore Hailey Alcorn secured a program mark as well, notching a 55.20 time in the 400m Dash along with her own third-place medal in the event.
-- Since good things tend happen in groups of three, the Red & Gray 4x400m Relay team -- comprised of Oboh, Anginique Andrews, Maerys Joseph and Alcorn -- also set a brand new school record, locking up sixth place on a 3:47.37 mark.
-- Notably, the Red & Gray set three new personal records on day two of the meet, including: Alcorn in the 400m final; Oboh in the 60m Hurdles final; and Augusta Marie Christensen in the 3000m Run (10:50.30).
