THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls State University senior offensive lineman P.J. Burkhalter has been named to the HERO Sports Preseason All-America First Team, as the organization announced Thursday its 2020 preseason football teams.
A native of Franklinton, Burkhalter played at center and guard last year, helping clear the way for the Colonels' potent rushing attack. Nicholls finished at 197.1 yards per game on the ground to lead the Southland Conference, led by running back Julien Gums who rushed for a school-record 1,232 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Burkhalter had one of the most decorated seasons in program history in 2019, earning five all-American recognitions. He was also named Southland Offensive Lineman of the Year and All-SLC First Team.
