BATON ROUGE, La. -- Following a 10-month hiatus due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Nicholls State University track & field program launches into the 2021 indoor campaign at the LSU Purple Tiger later this weekend, trekking north to Baton Rouge for the one-day meet against 10 fellow in-state squads, first event slated for the morning of Saturday, Jan. 16 at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.

"We are excited to open our season at LSU against many of Louisiana's NCAA Division I programs," head track & field coach Stefanie Slekis said. "We will have strong competition for our team to get a solid benchmark of where we are and the work we need to accomplish over the next six weeks to be at our best at the Southland Conference Championship.

"Our student-athletes can't wait to compete as it has been over 10 months since our last team competition at the 2020 Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. We had a stellar showing there as four of our school records were rewritten (Omo Oboh, 60m Hurdles; Hailey Alcorn, 400m Dash; Chelsea Harrington, Long Jump,; Women's Team, 4x400m Relay) in addition to six Top 10 All-Time marks, so we are excited to pick up where we left off."

After kicking off the indoor track & field season at LSU, the Colonels will turn right back around just under two weeks later for a second meet with the Tigers, returning to Baton Rouge on Friday, Jan. 19 for the Louisiana Invitational.
