THIBODAUX, La. – After having an unexpected week off, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team returns to Stopher Gymnasium to host rival New Orleans on Saturday, Jan. 23. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
 
Nicholls  (4-8, 3-2 SLC) looks to build off its strong start at home where it is 3-0 in league games. Saturday marks the final home game of the month before facing a road-heavy February. 
 
Overall, Nicholls has played five games at home this season and is 4-1, defeating Mobile, Sam Houston, Southeastern, and Northwestern State, and fell to Jackson State in nonconference. The Colonels are +6.8 in turnovers in Thibodaux and are holding teams to 39.4 percent shooting from the field. On offense, the Red and Gray are averaging 74.8 points and has three players in double figures, led by Chelsea Cain's 19.8 point per game. 
 
Despite another tough outing on the road last weekend, Cain was able to notch her fifth 20-point game in the last six. The sophomore increased her scoring average to 16.8 ppg on the season and 20.6 in conference. Adrian Mann is averaging 12.6 points in the five home games while Anna McKendree is at 10.6. McKendree has a team-high seven made 3-pointers in Stopher, shooting at a 43.8 percent clip, and is averaging 5.2 assists.
 
New Orleans (3-6, 0-3) heads to Thibodaux in search of its first league win after falling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday.  The Privateers have had two games postponed due to COVID-19 protocols.  
 
UNO has a balanced attack on offense with four players averaging nine points. Mia Deck leads the team (9.8 ppg) in scoring while Jada Duncantell (9.4) had a team individual-high of 28 points in the win over Texas State.
