Colonels continue road stretch Saturday at HBU

THIBODAUX, La. – Coming of its first road win of the season, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team will go for two in a row as the Colonels take on HBU at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Sharp Gymnasium.

Nicholls (6-8, 5-2 SLC) moved up to third in the Southland Conference standings following its 20-point win at McNeese on Wednesday. The victory ended a road drought for the Colonels, which dated back to last season's finale where they also won in Lake Charles. Nicholls claimed five road wins in the 2019-20 campaign, with one coming against the Huskies.

The Colonels used a balanced effort on offense in Wednesday's road win as four players scored in double figures for just the second time this season. Anna McKendree finished with a team-high 15 points and was followed by Terris McKay (14), Chelsea Cain (13) and Adrian Mann (11). The other outing with four double-digit scorers came in the home-opening victory against Mobile.

Defensively, the Red and Gray limited McNeese to 43 points and 29 percent shooting for the game. Nicholls heads into the matchup with HBU (5-4, 1-1 SLC) ranked fourth in points allowed in the Southland and fifth in field goal percentage defense. The Huskies feature the league's fourth-best scoring offense at 71.3 points.

HBU won its league opener back on Jan. 2 but was sidelined for the next few weeks due to COVID protocols. The Huskies returned to the court Wednesday and fell at home to Lamar, 66-61.

The duo of Timia Jefferson (13.4 ppg) and N'Denasija Collins (10.0) lead the HBU offense. Jefferson has a pair of 20-point outings this season, both in nonconference against Grand Canyon (24) and Texas Tech (22).
