Hurricane Relief contest between MBB vs. LSU set for Saturday

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University men's basketball team will see its first action of the season this Saturday, hosting the LSU Tigers in an exhibition matchup at 1 p.m. in in Stopher Gymnasium. All proceeds from the game will go towards relief efforts stemming from Hurrican Ida.

 A limited amount of tickets are still available for $10, with all seating general admission. Tickets for the first-ever game in Stopher Gym between Nicholls and LSU can be purchased online at NichollsTickets.com or by calling the Nicholls Athletics Ticket Office Friday during normal business hours at 985-448-4790. 
 
The defending Southland Conference champion Colonels posted an 18-win campaign under Austin Claunch, who is beginning his fourth season as head coach of the Nicholls program. The 2021-22 squad is led by all-league performer Ty Gordon (14.6 ppg) and veteran big man Ryghe Lyons (8.1 ppg/5.9 reb./44 blocks). 
 
LSU posted a 19-win season in 2020-21 and earned an NCAA Tournament victory in its opening game. Darius Days is the Tigers' top returning scorer at 11.6 points, hitting 52 3-pointers at a 40 percent clip. 
 
LSU holds an 18-1 record in the all-time series, falling only in 2010 matchup, 62-53. The Tigers took the last meeting between the programs, 86-80, on Dec. 26, 2020.
