THIBODAUX, La. - Following two 100-point outings against Carver College to open its home schedule, the Nicholls State University men's basketball team will head to Texas for a Monday morning matchup against the defending national champion and No. 8th-ranked Baylor Bears. Tipoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Nicholls improved to 3-0 to start the season after its 120-52 and 101-44 victories over Carver on Friday and Saturday. It is the first 3-0 start for the program since the 1971-72 season.
The Colonels began the season with a road win at Northern Iowa on Tuesday night, taking down the Panthers, 62-58.
Ty Gordon shined in the opener with 19 points on 9 of 17 from the field. He had his own 11-0 run late in the game that gave Nicholls a 57-44 lead over UNI. The home team eventually came back to bring it within two before
Devante Carter made free throws to put the game away. Carter, a transfer from Norfolk State, also scored in double figures with 12 points.
Baylor was ranked No. 8 in the preseason AP Top 25 poll after winning its first national title in the spring of 2021. The Bears opened their season on Friday with an 87-60 victory over UIW. Matthew Mayer paced the offense with 14 points.
Monday marks just the second all-time meeting between the programs. BU defeated the Colonels 81-54 in head coach Austin Claunch's fifth game at the helm in 2018. The teams were scheduled to play in 2020-21 but the game was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols.
