THIBODAUX, La. - Following a closely contested first half, the Nicholls State University quickly pushed its lead to double figures right after the break against Blue Mountain College and went on to improve to 4-0 at home with a 87-69 victory Monday night on Broussard Court in Stopher Gym.
The Colonels (7-3) received another outstanding offensive performance from
Ty Gordon, who was coming off earning Southland and LSWA Player of the Week earlier in the day. The fifth-year guard sank a career-high seven 3-pointers, finishing with a game-high 27 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists.
Manny Littles had his best outing as a Colonel, scoring 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
Blue Mountain College, an NAIA school that competes in the SSAC, played a spirited first half and trailed by just four at the break, 39-35. Nicholls scored the final four points of the half and then netted the first seven of the second, ending the run on a Gordon 3-pointer. The Toppers eventually cut the deficit to six before the Colonels pulled away with a game-clinching run.
Leading 56-50 with just under 13:00 on the clock, Nicholls held BMC to only five points over the next seven minutes to extend its advantage to 76-55.
Emmanuel Little (13 points) had two dunks during the stretch, and Gordon drilled back-to-back 3-pointers to help the Colonels to their seventh win of the early season.
Caleb Huffman also scored in double figures with 11 points and added seven rebounds.
Blue Mountain was led by Cole McGrath and Luka Tejic with 15 points each.

Nicholls will head north to take on Wisconsin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15 at. It will be the first of two Big 10 opponents for the Colonels this season. The game will air on the Big Ten Network and can be listened to on ESPN Radio 100.3 FM.
